Before Buying a Used Car
Purchasing a used car is big investment. Protect your investment by following a few tips and tricks to ensure your money is well spent.
Inspect the interior of the vehicle for dents, rust and peeling paint. Is the interior clean and well maintained? Lift the hood and look for anything out of the ordinary, are the reservoir caps missing? Broken covers or hoses?
Check all fluid levels, look for over filled or under filled reservoirs. Look for leaks or an abnormally clean engine, this could mean the engine has been cleaned to hide leaks.
Take a look at the vehicle history report, such as Carfax.
Ask the seller for service records. Check to see if regular oil changes are being completed and they are up to date on the manufacture recommended services.
Take a look at the tires, how much tread is left? Are the side walls worn or cracked? Is there uneven wear on the tread? It doesn’t hurt to compare the size of the tire with the sticker in the drivers door to ensure the vehicle has the correct tire size.
Take the vehicle for a test drive! We recommend taking any vehicle you are looking to purchase on a 20 to 30 minute test drive, be sure to get it up to speeds on 100km. Listen for any clicking, whirling or banging, feel for vibrations or shaking.
At Jay’s Automotive we offer a prepurchase inspection, we will give the vehicle a good look over, check suspension, fluids and tires so you can be sure you are investing your money the right way.
